Senior Project Impacts Life

Senior Project Impacts Life

As a Gig Harbor High School senior, Hillary Prather amazed us when she chose to include MWEEP as part of her 2011 Senior Project theme:  “Intelligence is Beautiful”.  For her outreach, Hillary hosted a fundraiser for MWEEP Kenya girls, and raised $730 to send 2 girls to secondary school.

MWEEP continued to influence Hillary’s goals and activities.  Over the past four years she has encouraged young women to pursue STEM (Science –Technology- Engineering-Math) careers while at the UW.  Hillary told us, “I feel like that work was influenced by my interest in MWEEP and empowerment through education.”

Hillary 2015

Fast forward to June 2015 and Hillary is now a University of Washington graduate, with a major in Informatics and a minor in Math.  As a top scholar, she was awarded the “Faculty Award for Student Excellence in Informatics” based on her academic achievement and service.

Before taking on her new job as a software developer on the data analytics team at TUNE, a digital marketing analytics company in Seattle, Hillary flew to Zambia, Africa to visit her friend in the Peace Corps.  She also scheduled trips to South Luangwa Game Park and Victoria Falls.  After meeting up with her parents in Paris Hillary travelled on to Scotland with a friend.

Smart, energetic, compassionate and our pioneer Hillary is definitely a go getter! She hopes to eventually do volunteer work abroad.  We look forward to that goal including MWEEP!
